The company’s CSI programme represents its support of initiatives that fall outside of its day-to-day enterprise, which are intended to bring about positive social and economic changes to historically disadvantaged communities and to enhance the environment in which the company operates.
The company’s promotion of this programme is entrenched in the view that:
- it is a responsible corporate citizen that intends to meet its shareholders’ expectations to meaningfully participate in the transformation of South Africa
- the social and economic opportunities that are available to advantaged and disadvantaged communities remain disparate
- there is a recognised need to accelerate social and economic progress in historically disadvantaged communities, and
- there is insufficient regulated and resourced focus on the preservation and conservation of the environment in which the company operates.
In order to be effective, the CSI programme must be aligned to the company’s transformation efforts, and the CSI projects must have enduring impact.
