labour project - usizo thuso

Description

The organisation was formed from a local church by the pastor and his wife because of an increasing number of orphans in the area, to make sure that they are well fed and attend school. They operated from the church for the first two years, but now currently operate from the pastor's house which has become too small for the organisation’s current and future plans. There is a corrugated iron structure on the property that they use for storage of material and food parcels.

The organisation had seven offices that needed painting on the inside and the outside. The ceilings and roof were also in a desperate need of a fresh coat of paint. The organisation needed volunteers to spend the day at the premises and assist them with sanding down the old walls and putting a fresh coat of paint on them for the benefit of the orphaned and vulnerable families of the community. The organisation believes that the community will feel proud of the nice clean community centre that they will have.

Feedback from the project

We are very grateful for what the volunteers from AVI did for our organization, beneficiaries and the community at large. They were all extremely friendly, sociable, and loving. We worked the whole day; but it did not feel that way, as we were having fun, eating, laughing and joking. We took lots of photos together and made loads of friends.

The volunteers met the orphans and gave them biscuits and Willards chips, we sang for them and enjoyed ourselves very much. We cherish the experience we had with them and we will always remember them.
