rainbow day care centre - maintenance

Description

The West Rand Association for the Physically Disabled was founded in 1947 to look after the needs of multi-disabled persons on the West Rand. This is being done with the social workers, work centres, a residential facility as well as a day care facility. Any multi-disabled person living in this area can seek assistance from the social workers.

The precast perimeter walls were in dire need of paint to make the property look "bright and breezy". The organisation needed volunteers to assist them with this task. The beneficiaries of the project are multi-disabled adults and children, and painting of the perimeter walls would brighten up the old building.

Feedback from the project

The boundary walls around the centre wer dull and lacked colourful paint. AVI donated the funds and WRAPD bought bright coloured paint, brushes etc. It was a beautiful sunny day and great fun was had by the 13 volunteers. The artistic people inspired the not so artistic people and it turned out a colourful playful work of art. Each person had four panels of the pre-cast wall to paint and decorate. It was a wonderful project for which we are very thankful.

The volunteers came into contact with the very disabled children and the dedicated hardworking staff. They also felt good after doing something for less fortunate persons. The staff of Rainbow and the representative from WRAPD learned more about AVI. They were a very happy crowd and enjoyed the day out of the office. Rainbow Day Care now looks like the happy place it really is.
