The AVI Star Schools Incubator Programme affords grade 10, 11 and 12 children from some 27 township schools the opportunity to attend additional classes in Mathematics, Science and English. AVI currently sponsors three programmes for a total of 450 students who attend school on Saturday mornings and during their school term breaks. Venues have been secured at Wits University, University of KZN and the Alberton Teachers Centre. Our sponsored educators are all in possession of a teaching qualification and registered with the South African Council of Education.

The programme has proven to be very successful with an average student attendance rate of 96%. The fact that the pass rate of students attending the AVI programme for the 2007 academic year was 91% compared to the national average of 65.2% is further proof of the success of the programme. The number of learners with endorsements was 15.1% nationally in 2007, whilst this percentage in our AVI programme was 59%, with 23 distinctions in the matric classes.

The total investment in this project is R2.3 million.
