 Lungisa Entrepreneurial Development Project

Lungisa, meaning “fix it” in Zulu, began as a CSI initiative in 1997.
The purpose of the project is to reduce unemployment, poverty and crime by empowering unemployed adults from disadvantaged communities through technical and business training to find employment or to become entrepreneurs.

The CSI Trust believe it appropriate to fund deserving children from disadvantaged backgrounds with bursaries to further their education at university.

 GAPA

GAPA’s (Grandmothers Against Poverty and AIDS) objective is to mobilise and empower senior citizens to develop skills and a support network to enable them to address the needs of their HIV positive family members.

 Kalkfontein Crèche and Pre-School

The Indigo Social Investment committee have identified a dire need for the establishment of a crèche and pre-school facility in the impoverished area of Kalkfontein on the Cape Flats.

 Spitz Shoes Donations

Approximately 3 000 pairs of shoes identified not-for-sale were donated by Spitz for distribution to needy recipients from disadvantaged communities. After initial “de-branding” by Irene Homes, the shoes were distributed to deserving organisations identified and administered by Greater Good South Africa. Value of this project was
R717 000.

 Roundabout Playpumps

Following the successful sponsorship and installation of a playpump at Borite Primary School in the Pilansberg area 2 years ago, the Social Investment Trust agreed to sponsor a second project at Ehlezeni Primary School in rural KZN.

 St. Mary’s Hospital – Home Based Care Centre

St. Mary’s Hospital based in Marionhill, close to Westmead in Durban provides invaluable support to the residents of the surrounding poverty stricken townships and rural areas, and in particular to the high number of people who are HIV positive and living with AIDS.

 WARMTH

WARMTH (War Against Malnutrition Hunger and Tuberculosis) operates a network of some 40 community kitchens in disadvantaged areas in the Western Cape, with each kitchen providing 350 to 500 low-cost nourishing meals per day to those in need.

 National Sea Rescue Institute

As a Platinum Member of this worthy institute, I&J again made an annual donation to the value of R76800 in F08.

 LGFB (Look Good, Feel Better) Foundation

The Look Good … Feel Better programme provides significant support to cancer patients by helping them regain the self-confidence they need to face the world and fight the disease.
